The 2012 season will be rich in new features for the DTM. In addition to the return of BMW, which just unveiled its M3 DTM yesterday, Audi will abandon its old four-door A4 model to present a two-door A5 coupe, the concept of which is currently called R17 by the manufacturer with the rings.
The car will be powered by a 8 horsepower V460, while the six-speed gearbox will be retained. It will have a wider rear wing, but its lines will be more refined than the A4 DTM in order to respect the regulations which will limit aerodynamic elements from next season.
Safety is prioritized, as Dr Wolfgang Ullrich explains. “Our engineers have worked to improve safety in DTM to reach the best possible level”, explains the director of Audi Motorsport. “We saw at Le Mans that our safety structures are very good and appropriate. This is exactly what we want to convey in DTM with our colleagues from BMW and Mercedes »
While waiting for the 5 A2012 DTM to be presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in September, find here photos of the R17 concept.
