Auer helps BMW return to victory at Lausitzring

Only two manufacturers participate in the German Touring Championship (DTM), yet BMW had to wait a year and 13 days before enjoying the joys of victory again. Thanks to Lucas Auer, the Propeller firm put an end to Audi's unchallenged reign in the DTM this Sunday, August 23.

However, the first laps of effort on the Lausitzring seemed to turn into a small party between drivers of the brand with the Rings. Pole sitter Robin Frijns as well as René Rast and Nico Müller escaped into the lead while the chasing group pitted prematurely to adopt an offbeat strategy.

This tactic paid off. Passing through the garages at the start of the race, Timo Glock and Lucas Auer (BMW) exchanged positions in the lead until the latter finally took the lead again at the start of the last lap:

Robin Frijns consoles himself with the last step of the podium ahead of Jamie Green (Audi) and the duelists in the championship, Nico Müller (5th) and René Rast (6th). French Loïc duval (Audi) finished 8th. Robert Kubica (BMW), despite his best qualification of the year (11th) slipped to bring up the rear (16th).
