The rain which fell heavily on the Norisring forced the race marshals to wave the red flag 20 laps from the end of the race. Starting in pole position, Bruno Spengler (Mercedes) wins another victory on the German track and regains the lead of the Championship with three points ahead of Martin Tomczyk (Audi).
The first Audi driver finished third behind Jamie Green, after moving up from tenth place on the starting grid. The German, who slipped to second place in the Championship, finished ahead of Timo Scheider (Audi) and Edoardo Mortara (Audi).
For his return to DTM, Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) only took 14th place after starting in 17th position on the starting grid. The German victim of an accident 24 Hours of Le Mans had difficulty using the tires during the qualifying session.
