C1: Mortara wins an event marred by accidents

Edward Mortara opens his score of victories under the colors of Mercedes. Saturday afternoon, the 31-year-old Swiss won the first race of the meeting held at the Lausitzring (Germany) after an event full of incidents.

Starting from seventh place on the grid, the Venturi driver in Formula e took advantage of a better strategy at the end of the race to catch up and overtake Philipp Eng (BMW) in the last minutes of the effort. The Austrian was also overtaken by Timo Glock (BMW). “What a crazy ride!” I was lucky because the team adopted an ideal strategy. I struggled during my first stint, but I kept things under control.", explains the winner.

The shocking image, however, will remain the flight of René Rast (Audi), caused after contact with Loïc duval (Audi). The outgoing champion, his face covered in dust thrown by his barrel, emerged from the carcass under his own power despite the violence of the accident.

Other abandonments, those of Jamie green (Audi) and Nico Müller (Audi). The latter stalled when the lights went out; starting from the last row, the Briton hit him head-on. Nico Müller was treated by the circuit medical services for a check-up.
