Marco Wittmann (BMW) collected his third victory in the 2019 German Touring Championship season (DTM) Saturday July 20 near Assen (Netherlands). The 2014 and 2016 champion of the discipline converted his pole position into success despite heavy rain at the start of the event.
The track was so flooded that Race Direction sent the Safety Car to start the race. After a quarter of an hour of parade, the 18 cars were released, with several incidents (spin for Sheldon Van der Linde, mechanical problem for Daniel Juncadella).
As is often the case in DTM, the pit stop strategy changed the hierarchy. Sixth before changing tires, Nico Müller (Audi) delayed his pit stop until the last minutes. The German took the opportunity to move up to second place, a position he preserved despite the pressure exerted by René Rast (Audi).
Qualified in an interesting third place, Loïc duval (Audi) went the opposite way, losing several positions after its pit stop. The Frenchman only finished eighth. Finally, in front of his home crowd, Robin Frijns (Audi) did not impress the gallery, with an exit from the track and an abandonment.
