Da Costa to abandon DTM for Formula e

Antonio Félix da Costa will leave the DTM after just three years with BMW. The former test pilot of Red Bull Racing will concentrate on its program in Formula e with Amlin Andretti where he will team up with Robin Frijns. The 25-year-old Portuguese will remain in the family of the manufacturer at Hélice by participating in GT events.

“I have been very happy to represent BMW in DTM for the last three seasons in a very competitive Championship which requires a lot of skills, commented Antonio Félix da Costa, who has a victory in Zandvoort (Netherlands) in 2015. I had a great time in DTM, with a pole and a victory and I really enjoyed working with my teammates. »

“However, this Championship requires constant concentration and I have chosen to put all my efforts into Formula e. I am happy to be part of the international BMW project which will also require a lot of my time. I look forward to new experiences and am happy with my choice,” added the BMW Team Schnitzer resident.

“The public will clearly miss Antonio, recognized Jens Marquardt, BMW sporting director. Antonio may not have spent much time with us but we will continue to work with him. He is a very talented driver who is one of the best racers I know. He managed to win a race during his short stint in DTM, few drivers can boast of that. »

Antonio Félix da Costa will contest the penultimate round of the DTM season this weekend at the Hungaroring before competing in the final at Hockenheim on October 15 and 16. The Portuguese occupies 18th place in the Championship.
