David Schumacher joins Mercedes-AMG in DTM

German youth arrive in DTM ! After two discreet seasons to say the least in Formula 3, David Schumacher launches an attack on the touring car championship, within the prestigious German team, Mercedes-AMG. The young 20-year-old pilot, son of the former pilot of F1 Ralf Schumacher (himself spent by Mercedes in DTM between 2008 and 2012), will be associated with the reigning champion of the category, Maximilian Götz, as well as the Austrian Lucas Auer.

“I am aware that I have to learn a lot of things to maintain my place in this series of very high level races, said David Schumacher. The two categories of cars are worlds apart. Due to its considerably higher weight alone, the GT3 requires a much smoother driving style than the car »

“At first, ABS was a real shock for me, I didn't know it at all from a racing car. However, I quickly felt comfortable in the Mercedes-AMG GT3. It really is a pleasure to drive. My goal for the first year is to get used to the race car and absorb the many details that are important in DTM. With Lucas and Maximilian, I have two very experienced teammates towards whom I can turn. »

David Schumacher, who already had the opportunity to test a GT racing car last November, will carry out his first test with his new team in Portimão, Portugal, next Wednesday. Born in Salzburg but racing under the German flag, Schumacher spent his final season competing for the Italian team Trident, still taking two podiums and a victory in the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

The 2022 DTM also starts its new season in Portimão, from April 29 to May 1.
