The 2019 vintage of the German Touring Championship (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, DTM) will be made up of 18 drivers, representing three different brands. The usual Audi and BMW are joined by Aston Martin Vantage of the private team R-Motorsport.
The Swiss team takes the place previously occupied by Mercedes. Two representatives of the Star brand are joining R-Motorsport, namely Paul di Resta (3rd in 2018 and titled in 2011) and Daniel Juncadella.
Five young drivers will make their debut. Coming respectively from the Adac GT Masters and the Formula 3 Europe, Sheldon van der Linde (BMW) and Jonathan Aberdein (Audi) will be the first representatives from South Africa to race in DTM.
Already on board with R-Motorsport in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup last year, Jake Dennis keeps the gray colors for his transfer to DTM. His teammate will be Ferdinand Habsburg, in decline in Formula 3 Europe for his second campaign (13th in 2018, 7th in 2017).
Le Team WRT, one of the new structures in the DTM paddock, will support two rookies. In addition to Jonathan Aberdein, Pietro Fittipaldi will be closely scrutinized. The 22-year-old Brazilian, grandson of the double world champion F1 Emerson Fittipaldi, asuffered serious leg injuries in a crash in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Spa (Belgium) in May 2018. Almost a year to the day after the accident, he will be in Hockenheim (Germany) for the start of the DTM.
