DTM – Audi conquers its first success in Moscow

Audi returns to Moscow Raceway where Ingolstadt celebrated a double last year with Mike Rockenfeller's victory ahead of Mattias Ekström. The brand with the Rings dreams of such a result which would allow its drivers to catch up with Championship leader Marco Wittmann. However, conditions have evolved since the short 2,5km long route has been replaced by the 3,931km route which includes a new section encouraging overtaking.

The frustration is palpable at Audi, which has five drivers in the top six of the Drivers' standings but is still looking for its first success this season. “The first victory of the season is a long time coming”, recognizes Dieter Gass, director of DTM. “We have consistently had great performances where almost all of our drivers have had ups and downs. Our goal in Moscow will be to repeat the victory we acquired last year, even if we will run with a different track configuration. We have a balanced team this year and we still have several drivers fighting for the title. This also means that we will have some serious candidates for victory. »

Among the squad lined up by Audi, Mike Rockenfeller will carry the manufacturer's hopes to the Rings after his victory last year when he started from pole. “I had a dream weekend last year”, comments the reigning champion who became a father the day after the Norisring race. “I plan to give a strong response after having experienced two difficult races (10th in Budapest and 8th at the Norisring). With a little more luck, we will have a great opportunity to return to the front. » Mattias Ekström will also be motivated when he arrives in Russia after winning his first World RX victory last weekend on his home turf in Höljes. “Last year's race was one of the best of my DTM career. That’s why I’m looking forward to this weekend.”, says the Swede. “I love the crowd and the enthusiasm in Russia and I will do everything to play in front because I am still missing the biggest trophy this year. »
