DTM – Augusto Farfus shines at the Nürburgring

Augusto Farfus (BMW M3 DTM) took his first pole position of the season at the Nürburgring. The Brazilian, winner of the very first round of the year, set his best time in 1:23:296 and beat another BMW driver, Marco Wittmann. But the latter's second place is threatened because he is under investigation by the race management: he would have exceeded the maximum speed authorized in the pit lane. The Spaniard Miguel Molina (Audi RS 5 DTM) finished 3rd. This is the first time since his pole position at Hockenheim in 2011 that he has managed to get into Q4. The top-4 is completed by the Franco-Italian, who races under Italian license, Edoardo Mortara (Audi RS 5 DTM).

No representative of Mercedes failed to reach the final level of qualifying. But the star brand can be satisfied with the performance of Gary Paffett, 5th. Of the men vying for the title, he is the one who qualified best. Indeed, Mike Rockenfeller (Audi RS 5 DTM) almost lost big from the start of the session. The leader of the Drivers' classification and true local hero failed in 11th position during Q2. His direct opponent in the Drivers' standings, Bruno Spengler (BMW M3 DTM), then had the path clear to outrun him on the starting grid. This will not be the case: the reigning champion of the discipline only finished 10th during Q3, he will start just in front of his main rival! With a little air in front of him, Gary Paffett could regain some precious points this Sunday, even if the race will be long.

Adrien Tambay (Audi RS 5 DTM), who shone during the last meeting in Moscow, was this time unable to do better than 14th place, just behind the former driver of Formula 1, Timo Glock (BMW M3 DTM), 13th.
