DTM-C1: Edoardo Mortara untouchable in Austria

Saturday day at Red Bull Ring in Austria was placed under the domination of Edward Mortara. Best time during the two free practice sessions, the Italian did it again in qualifying, taking his first pole position of the year.

At the end of the afternoon, the Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline driver did not miss his chance to get back on the path to success in DTM. But for this, the former champion F3 Euro Series partly benefited from the setbacks of Jamie Green (Audi).

The championship leader before this Austrian meeting had however made the best start, beating Mortara at the first corner of the Spielberg track. But the Team Rosberg resident quickly had to give up, slowed down by problems changing gears on his gearbox.

Green offside, Mortara took the opportunity to take control of the race. Behind him, Pascal Wehrlein and Paul di Resta (Mercedes) will compete for a while for second place, before Wehrein gets the better of the former driver F1. The leading trio will not move further until the finish.

Christian Vietoris (Mercedes) finished fourth ahead of Mattias Ekström (Audi) who passed Augusto Farfus (BMW) on the last lap of the race. Gary Paffett and Lucas Auer (Mercedes? ART Grand Prix) rank 7th and 21st, while Adrien Tambay (Audi) takes tenth place.

With his second place, Pascal Wehrlein regains control of the championship before the second race which will be contested tomorrow in Austria.
