DTM-C2: Wickens and Mercedes shine in Nuremberg

Bruno Spengler could not have done anything. The champion DTM 2012 may have taken pole position this morning for this second race of the weekend at the Norisring in Germany, the Mercedes C-Coupé AMG were the strongest in Nuremberg.

The Canadian dominated the start of this Sunday round marked by the intervention of the safety car following debris on the track coming from Timo Glöck's BMW M4. The rest of the ordeal, however, did not allow Spengler to resist the pressure of Robert Wickens and Christian Vietoris who will quickly escape to race towards a Mercedes double and a second victory for the star brand this weekend.

The fight for third place will be much more competitive, since Bruno Spengler will succeed in overtaking Mattias Ekström (Audi) on the penultimate lap at the cost of a muscular maneuver at turn 1. The Swede, who wore a tribute livery for the 25th anniversary of the victory of the brand with the rings on this circuit, was unable to offer the podium to his employer.

Behind Ekström, the top 10 is completed by the Mercedes of Pascal Wehrlein, winner yesterday, Paul di Resta, Gary Paffett, Daniel Juncadella and Lucas Auer, as well as the BMW M4 of Belgian Maxime Martin. Adrien Tambay (Audi) experienced a complicated meeting like his teammates on the RS5 DTM and finished in 14th place.
