DTM – Duval and Rast confirmed at Audi

Audi Sport has found a new program for Loïc duval. As we mentioned in issue 2091 of AUTOhebdo, the winner of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 found refuge in DTM where he will continue to defend the interests of the manufacturer at Les Anneaux after the end of his commitment in WEC. The former world champion had been expected for several weeks since his tests in Jerez (Spain) held from Tuesday November 29 to Friday December 2.

“With Loïc, we welcome one of the best drivers from Le Mans to our DTM team. I am convinced that we are able to play at the forefront with our crew for the 2017 season by having six strong characters in our team”, welcomed Dieter Gass, director of the DTM program at Audi Sport.

The latter can be all the more satisfied as René Rast will also be there after the 30-year-old German distinguished himself during his three engagements in 2016.

The squad will be completed by Jamie Green, Nico Müller and former champions Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekström. The Swede will therefore continue in the German Touring Car Championship, even if it is in World RX with his EKS team that the Scandinavian distinguished himself the most this year since he won the title.

On the other hand, with the reduction from 8 to 6 cars for the 2017 season, Audi Sport had to thank Miguel Molina, Edoardo Mortara, Timo Scheider and Adrien Tambay.

“I would like to thank them for these years spent in DTM and I wish them the best for the future, commented Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport. We have always worked well together and celebrated gratifying successes on several occasions. It was difficult to say goodbye to them. »
