DTM – Edoardo Mortara leaves for Mercedes

Mercedes offered itself a recruit of choice for the 2017 season where the three DTM manufacturers will limit their entries to six cars (compared to eight in 2016). The star brand announced the arrival of Edoardo Mortara within its squad a few days after the Italian finished runner-up at Hockenheim against Marco Wittmann (BMW).

Edoardo Mortara has defended the interests of Audi since its beginnings in DTM in 2011. The Italian first played for Team Rosberg for three seasons before joining Team Abt Sportsline. His commitment was not limited to the German Touring Car Championship since he also represented the firm at the Rings in other prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring or the Blancpain GT Series.

“We are delighted to finally be able to announce that Edoardo Mortara will be one of our drivers in 2017. Edo and Mercedes AMG have had an agreement in place for a while but we did not announce it before out of respect for Audi, explained Ulrich Fritz, the director of the DTM branch of Mercedes. Edoardo Mortara is a perfect signing for the team. He is not only an experienced pilot, he is also a very pleasant person. We look forward to a fruitful partnership with him. »
