DTM – Ekström and Audi shine at Hockenheim

After a first success this season in Zandvoort (Netherlands), Mattias Ekström won his second victory in a row by winning the final of the DTM in Hockenheim (Germany) where Audi achieved a hat-trick which allowed it to win the Manufacturers' title with a 30-point lead over BMW. If Jamie Green benefited from his strategy at the start of the race, his different approach to starting with the tires "Options" backfired during the final laps following an intervention by the safety car following Daniel Juncadella's exit from the track (Mercedes).

Mattias Ekström and Mike Rockenfeller had no trouble getting rid of Jamie Green at the restart, the Briton still ensuring a hat-trick for Audi by resisting Paul di Resta (Mercedes). Marco Wittmann was once again the best performing BMW driver, the new champion placing his M4 DTM in the top five ahead of Timo Scheider (Audi) and Martin Tomczyk (BMW). Pole sitter Miguel Molina (Audi) only took ninth place between Robert Wickens (Mercedes) and Antonio Félix da Costa (BMW) after being the victim of an exit on the first lap.

Adrien Tambay (Audi) had a difficult final weekend as the Frenchman collided with Vitaly Petrov (Mercedes) on the last lap of the race. Maxime Martin (BMW) also retired.
