DTM organizers have revealed a change in race format for the 2017 season, with two rounds of the same length.

DTM – The race format revised in 2017

The format of the meetings DTM will be changed this year. Two races lasting 55′ plus one lap (with mandatory pit stop) will now be on the program for each weekend.

The previous format seen in 2016 with a 40' round without a pit stop, and a 60' round with a compulsory passage through the pit lane, disappears to improve the show according to the organizers.

“The new race format encourages creative strategies and racing towards perfection from teams and drivers, says Florian Zitzlsperger, board member of ITR, the promoter of the discipline.

For spectators, the DTM intends to offer an increased number of spectacular races and more entertainment over the two days of the weekend. » In total, the duration of a race will be increased by 10′ compared to 2016, with four hours of driving per meeting.

Something new in the stands

Beyond this new format, additional adjustments to the sporting regulations have been made. Heated blankets will now be banned, and only two mechanics will now be able to change tires during stops.

These can be carried out at any time during the race between the second and penultimate crossings on the line, offering more strategic possibilities.
