DTM – Radio communications limited in 2017

After having modified the format of the races and removed certain possibilities (heating blanket, etc.) for the teams, the organizers of the DTM German have announced new changes to the sporting regulations ahead of the first round of the season this weekend at Hockenheim.

First point: radio communications between the pits and the driver. These will be drastically reduced in order to give more importance to the pilot's decisions. « During the race, the transmission of information from the pits to the driver is prohibited, mentions the championship press release.

Stand-car communication is limited to the panel presented on the main straight. The ban on radio communication is only lifted in certain situations: when passing through the pit lane, when the yellow flags are waved or during an intervention by the safety car. In these cases, safety-related instructions may be given. »

Another area that sees changes for 2017: the use of the DRS movable rear wing. The latter can only be activated 36 times during a race, over a total of 12 laps.

Double file restart and points awarded in qualifying

Drivers may also be awarded points at the end of qualifying sessions. Three points will be given to the pole sitter, two to his runner-up on the grid and one to the third in the session.

Finally, restarts after intervention by the safety car will now be carried out in double file. The performance balancing system via mass, however, remains unchanged, with a base mass set at 1125 kg.

A maximum of 15 kg can be added and a maximum of 30 kg can be removed, in increments of 2,5 kg.
