Edoardo Mortara (Audi) could only hope for a poor performance from his rival Marco Wittmann (BMW) to hope to win the title at the end of the last race of the season DTM in Hockenheim. Starting from sixth position alongside the German after encountering technical problems in qualifying, the Italian managed to move into the lead to sign his fifth victory of the season.
It was not an easy task for Edoardo Mortara who fell to eighth place behind his title rival after going wide at turn 2. The two contenders for the coronation then made their way to the front before the Italian took the lead. A poor stop by the BMW driver saw him demoted to fifth place, but an error by Tom Blomqvist (BMW) allowed the Championship leader to regain fourth place behind the Mercedes by Christian Vietoris and Paul di Resta. Marco Wittmann thus won his second coronation after that of 2014 with a lead of four points over Edoardo Mortara.
Audi can console itself with the Manufacturers' title while Audi Sport Team abt Sportsline secured the Team title.
Maxime Martin (BMW) took sixth place behind Timo Glock (BMW). Adrien Tambay (Audi) finished last after suffering a drive through.
