DTM – Mattias Ekström unleashes Audi at Zandvoort

Mattias Ekström took advantage of safety car interventions at Zandvoort (Netherlands) to gain positions in the peloton after having had to fall back to seventh position following a five-place penalty imposed at the end of qualifying. The Swede took the advantage over the new champion Marco Wittmann (BMW) by taking advantage of a better strategy to offer the first success of the season to Audi Sport at the end of the penultimate event of the season.

Martin Tomczyk places a second M4 DTM on the podium by beating the RS 5 DTM of Edoardo Mortara, author of an admirable comeback following his disqualification when he had to start from the second row. Christian Vietoris (Mercedes) completes the top five ahead of Maxime Martin (BMW). The Belgian is ahead of the Mercedes of Pascal Wehrlein, Daniel Juncadella and Robert Wickens who complete the top ten. Adrien Tambay (Audi) retired.

Team RMG of Marco Wittmann and Maxime Martin clinches the Teams title with one race remaining in the season. On the other hand, BMW and Audi are only separated by 21 points among the Manufacturers before the final played on October 19 in Hockenheim (Germany).
