DTM – Mercedes welcomes Edoardo Mortara

Mercedes will have new blood in the next season of DTM. The star manufacturer confirmed the arrival of runner-up Edoardo Mortara in its ranks after the Italian defended Audi's interests.

“I can’t wait to work with my new teammates, commented the 2010 champion of the F3 Euro Series. We have many experienced riders who I have enjoyed battling with in the past. I am sure that together we will achieve excellent results for the team. It's important to have fast teammates because it raises everyone's performance level. »

If Edoardo Mortara will find himself behind the wheel of a Mercedes in DTM for the first time, Maro Engel will also have to find his bearings after an absence of 5 years. The German had defended the colors of Mücke Motorsport between 2008 and 2011.

The rest of the crew will be made up of the usual drivers with Robert Wickens, Gary Paffett (2005 champion), Paul di Resta (2010 champion) and Lucas Auer. Maximilian Günther will take up the position of reserve and test driver after participating in the DTM young driver tests in Jerez (Spain) last December.

“It is a great honor for me to be a test pilot and reservist, confided the vice-champion of the F3 European Championship. I had a lot of fun discovering the DTM. The car is very impressive. »

Mercedes, on the other hand, had to thank several drivers from its workforce due to the reduction in commitments from the three manufacturers.

“With Daniel Juncadella, Maximilian Götz, Felix Rosenqvist and Christian Vietoris, we say goodbye to four riders who have ridden successfully in recent years, commented Ulrich Fritz, head of the DTM department at Mercedes-AMG. They didn't always have an easy time, but they remained committed to the task. I am convinced that this will remain the case in the future. »
