DTM – Mercedes will scale back in 2017

While the grid of DTM should be reduced to 18 cars in 2017 (compared to 24 in 2016), Mercedes is the first of the three brands involved to confirm its reduction in commitments with more than 6 C63 AMGs lined up next year compared to eight models entered this season.

“We considered several scenarios following the manufacturers' decision to move to 6 cars in 2017, confirmed Ulrich Fritz, director of Mercedes DTM in a press release. It is regrettable that our cooperation with Mücke Motorsport and ART Grand Prix will not continue in the DTM. »

“If you had seen how happy the entire Mercedes AMG team was with Mücke Motorsport's first victory at the Lausitzring (with Lucas Auer), you would see our affection for this team. We are therefore happy to continue with them in F3. ART GP has done an incredible job over the last two years without having any DTM experience”, added Ulrich Fritz.

ART Grand Prix is expected to compete in the LMP2 category of WEC.
