DTM – Modifications to the sporting regulations

The first measures concern the use of tires. With immediate effect, drivers will only have one compulsory stop during the race instead of two last year. Making this obligatory stop when the safety car is on the track will remain prohibited. After the race restarts, drivers will have six laps to complete their mandatory pit stop, although this must mean that the stop will be made after the end of the time window for the mandatory pit stop.

Because this year, the officials of DTM have limited the use of option tires to 50% of the race distance. After the entry of a Safety Car, the drivers who used these compounds will have six laps to put on new tires, even if they exceed 50% of the race distance. The DRS (movable rear wing) can be used until the end of the race.

The qualifying session will consist of three phases in 2014. Q4, for the four fastest drivers, will be eliminated. During the first 13-minute qualifying phase, the five slowest drivers will be eliminated. At the end of Q2, the 10 slowest will in turn be eliminated. Which will leave the top eight competing for pole in Q3.

Finally, the last novelty, the ballast. Depending on the results obtained, a brand can add up to 10 kilos (a maximum of 5 kilos per race) or can get rid of a maximum of 10 kilos (a maximum of 5 kilos per race). The first round of the DTM will take place on May 4 at Hockenheim.
