DTM: New deal for Rockenfeller

Mike Rockenfeller discusses the 2011 season of DTM with completely new means and completely new ambitions. This year, the 27-year-old German will drive the latest evolution of the Audi A4, entered by the Abt Sportsline team. At the same time, he will continue his program with Audi in Endurance, notably at the wheel of the R15 at the 12 Hours of Sebring, then the R18 at the 24 hours of Le Mans.

Joined by Audi since 2007, he finished last season in seventh position and obtained a podium at Hockenheim. His victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans only increased his ambitions tenfold. “ For me, this is an important step to be able to fight at the front with the latest car, explains the last winner of the 24 hours of Le Mans. Especially going into the 2012 season, when everyone will start with new equipment and with new manufacturers joining the DTM, 2011 is an important year to prepare for this season. This is a huge opportunity offered by Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich. My goal is to prove that I have earned my place and that I can obtain good results. »

Like the pilot Mercedes, Gary Paffett who is still eyeing the side of F1, Mike Rockenfeller has no ambition in car. The German absolutely does not regret his career choice, nor his decision to join the ranks of Ingolstadt. “For many Formula 1 drivers, their biggest dream is to reach a good team at some point in their career, for others this dream ends at a team at the back of the grid. Quite honestly, what could be better than competing in a DTM season for a brand like Audi and defending the title at Le Mans? I am very happy with what Audi has done for me. »
