DTM – Rockenfeller: A race under control

After recovering the pole following the disqualification of Martin Tomczyk's BMW, Mike Rockenfeller managed to maintain the advantage at the start of the Brands Hatch race to win and thus achieve his second success in the discipline after the race of Zandvoort 2011. The German, who was to fly to the 24 Hours of Nürburgring just after the finish, still took the time to look back on his result which allows him to take control of the Championship with a point advance on Bruno Spengler. “I'm obviously happy that things went as planned on the track because anything can happen in DTM. We had a great opportunity after qualifying. Then it was up to me to get a good start and it worked. My team and I gave it our all afterwards. I tried to stay on the attack every lap. I think it's safe to say we had a race under our control. »

Dieter Gass, Audi's director in this competition, is relieved to see an RS5 DTM return to success. Everything went wonderfully this weekend, especially with Mike. He was fighting at the front from the start, even in qualifying. He himself put the icing on the cake. It was a first class performance from him from the first to the last round. The fact that he won at the start of the race was very important. He had a fantastic first stint on the option tires and was able to build a slight advantage. By realizing this, he placed himself in a comfortable situation while respecting the established strategy. »
