DTM: Spengler leaves Mercedes for BMW

Let it be said: BMW will not be present next year in DTM to make up the numbers, but to aim for the title from the first season of his return. And for this, the Bavarian firm did not hesitate to steal key pieces from the competition, and in particular from Mercedes. Second in the championship in 2006 and 2007 and third in 2010 and 2011, Bruno Spengler leaves the star firm to join BMW. The Franco-Canadian thus ends a 9-year relationship with the Stüttgart manufacturer. A relationship that began in 2003 in F3 Euro Series. Spengler is undoubtedly one of the current stars of the DTM, with 9 victories, 27 podiums, 11 pole positions and 12 lap records. This is certainly a big move that BMW has just achieved.

“In recent weeks, we have not only developed our M3 (Photos), but have also worked on our driver line-up, underlines Jens Marquardt, Director of BMW Motorsport. Bruno Spengler was one of our priorities. Despite his young age, he has a lot of DTM experience, which will greatly help us in our development phase and during our race weekends. It is for these reasons that we did not hesitate to seize the opportunity to sign Bruno when it presented itself. We have not yet decided which of our three teams (Schnitzer, RBM or RMG, editor’s note) it will roll. » After the Brazilian Augusto Farfus and the Briton Andy Priaulx, Bruno Spengler is the third man confirmed within the BMW workforce.
