DTM – Tomczyk takes pole at Brands Hatch

Martin Tomczyk took pole on the Brands Hatch circuit in the BMW where the gaps were particularly tight with a track of less than two kilometers. The 2011 champion posted a lap of 41 seconds to secure first place on the grid after missing out on points at Hockenheim. The German is only 158 thousandths ahead of the Audi RS35 DTM of Mike Rockenfeller who will have a busy weekend as he will also participate in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. The driver from the Ingolstadt manufacturer is only four thousandths ahead of the M3 DTM of Augusto Farfus who won in the first race of the season at Hockenheim. Joey Hand (BMW) completes the second row ahead of Bruno Spengler (BMW). BMW thus achieves a nice achievement with four drivers in the top five. Timo Scheider (Audi) follows in sixth position.

Mercedes suffered in these qualifications, the first AMG C Coupé only ranked 12th with Gary Paffett who will start alongside Timo Glock (BMW). Mattias Ekström (Audi) could also claim a better position on the grid, the Swede only managing to secure 13th place. After his retirement during the first round, Adrien Tambay (Audi) will be keen to quickly score his first points in the Championship. But the Frenchman will have his work cut out for him by only starting from 16th position on a circuit where overtaking proves difficult despite the use of soft tires and DRS.

The DTM race at Brands Hatch can be followed live from 13:15 p.m. on Motors TV.
