DTM – Wickens maintains Mercedes invincibility at Norisring

In difficulty since the start of the season, Mercedes was able to preserve his invincibility at the Norisring thanks to Robert Wickens who converted his pole into victory to achieve the second success of his career in DTM at the end of an event contested in changing conditions. The star brand signs its 12th victory in 14 races on the Nuremberg track and could have claimed a double with Christian Vietoris but the HWA team driver had to retire after losing a wheel following his second stop.

Robert Wickens is ahead of a nice group of Audis who were lying in ambush behind the Canadian. Jamie Green took second place, still 23 seconds behind at the finish, while Mattias Ekström completed the podium ahead of Edoardo Mortara and Adrien Tambay. But the Frenchman received a half-minute penalty following his aggressive overtaking of Pascal Wehrlein (Mercedes) who found himself in the top five while Adrien Tambay fell back to ninth position. Championship leader Marco Wittmann places the first BMW in sixth place ahead of his teammate Joey Hand, but the German cannot prevent his direct rival Edoardo Mortara from falling back to 19 points.

The new retirees of the F1 always struggle to put themselves forward. Paul di Resta (Mercedes) only takes 15th place ahead of Timo Glock (BMW) who is ahead of Belgian Maxime Martin (BMW). Vitaly Petrov (Mercedes) only finished in 19th position.
