DTM – Wittmann on his way to the title at the Nürburgring

Marco Wittmann (BMW) had a perfect weekend at the Nürburgring as the German won at home after starting from pole in front of a quickly dispersed Audi peloton with four RS 5s DTM were involved in collisions at the start of the race, notably with Timo Scheider and Nico Müller. Despite the pressure exerted in the final laps, the Championship leader crossed the finish line one second ahead of the reigning champion and took advantage of the retirement of Mattias Ekström (Audi) to take a lead of 64 points three events from the end of the season. Barring an exceptional twist of fate, the resident of Team RMG should win his first coronation in the discipline.

Edoardo Mortara (Audi) climbs to the last step of the podium and becomes the winner's closest opponent. If the manufacturer with the rings still places two drivers in the top three, it is still on the lookout for a first success this year. Paul di Resta and Daniel Juncadella allow Mercedes to place two AMG C Coupés in the top five as the star brand prepared for a difficult weekend. The sixth place of Christian Vietoris even completes the performance. The Belgian Maxime Martin (BMW) took seventh place but Adrien Tambay (Audi) failed to reach the top ten. Timo Glock (BMW) and Vitaly Petrov (Mercedes) are the last classified.

At the end of the race, Joey Hand received a 30-second penalty at the end of the Nürburgring race and thus fell to 17th place after crossing the finish line in 14th place. The BMW driver was penalized for a dangerous exit into the pits. Jamie Green (Audi) was the first beneficiary since he inherits the American's position, followed by Gary Paffett (Mercedes) and Timo Glock (BMW).
