DTM – Wittmann deserves the title for Jens Marquardt

Despite a final meeting in Hungary punctuated by a disqualification, Mark Wittman still retains control with a view to the 2016 title in DTM. The BMW driver, already crowned in 2014, could win his second crown in the space of three seasons, at the end of a year where he almost never left the top 10 in racing.

Consistency coupled with three victories in Austria, Russia and at the Nürburgring and two other podiums which leave no doubt as to its legitimacy at the forefront of the category according to its boss Jens Marquardt.

“Having decided, in the interests of the sport, not to take his exclusion in Hungary to the court of appeal, we will do everything we can to ensure that Marco brings home the title for a second time, comments the director of BMW Motorsport.

Given his performances this season, he would definitely deserve the title. It’s not going to be easy, but the opportunity is there, and we don’t want to miss it.”

With 14 points ahead of his main rival Edoardo Mortara (Audi), Marco Wittmann remains in a favorable position. More than seeking victory at all costs, the German driver should focus on a more cautious approach.

“We need to approach the final season with a cool head and try to stay out of any close fights, specifies the leader of the general classification. It won't be easy since the races at Hockenheim are generally very competitive on the track. »

For the record, last May at the season opener on this same Hockenheim track, Edoardo Mortara won the first race of the season at a time when Marco Wittmann was having one of his worst weekends.
