Ekström stays on pace in Valencia

Mattias Ekström (Audi) had a good end to the season. After being on the podium in the last three events (with two victories), the Swede achieved a new pole on the Valencia circuit by setting a time of 1:30:608. The 2007 champion is ahead of another Audi driver on the grid in Filipe Albuquerque.

Renger van der Zande surprises by placing first Mercedes in third position ahead of David Coulthard (Mercedes). Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) ranks fifth ahead of Miguel Molina (Audi) and Timo Scheider (Audi).

The Championship leaders miss their qualifications. Martin Tomczyk (Audi) will only start from 11th place but the German is still ahead of his rival Bruno Spengler (Mercedes), who will only start from 13th place. After dropping out at the last meeting in Germany, the Canadian will have to put in a real performance to get ahead of his rival for the title and maintain his chances in the Championship before the last event of the season which will be held at Hockenheim.
