Ekström: A carefree weekend

After a podium finish in the first race of the season, Mattias Ekström only finished in the points twice. The Swede will nevertheless have the opportunity to score a good result at the Nürburgring with his pole.

Mattias Ekström started his season strong by taking second place at Hockenheim. But the double Champion of DTM only managed to get into the points on two other occasions (at Zandvoort and at the Norisring). However, his pole position at the Nürburgring puts him in an ideal situation to deliver another satisfactory performance.

“It’s a good thing to get back on pole”, admits the Swede after the qualifying session disrupted by showers. “It's also nice to have a weekend without any problems, we had a good Friday and a wonderful Saturday. From now on, the essential point is to stay focused to continue in the same way in warm-up and in the race. »

Mattias Ekström acclimatized well to the changing weather conditions on the German track. “Everything simply worked perfectly, my team made the right decisions every time”, specifies the Audi driver. “With these weather conditions, it was anything but a pleasure. The light rain kept coming back, the first and last sessions had become a real gamble. »

The start of the race will be at 14 p.m.
