Gerhard Berger hopes for “20 cars and five brands” in 2021

It will inevitably be one of the championships to which all eyes will turn in 2021. After the era of Class One, which ultimately led to the end of DTM in the form that we have known it for years, the GT3 will come to preside over the destiny of the German series from next year.

A daring choice of regulations, as we know that the powerful German ADAC GT championship, without obviously counting the SRO Motorsports series (GT World Challenge Europe in the lead), already offer serious assets for the teams.

However, Gerhard Berger, boss of ITR, promoter of the DTM, says he is confident for the first year of this new period, which will always give pride of place to only one driver per car.

« My big goal is to collect 20 cars with at least five brands, specifies the former pilot McLaren et Ferrari. All with top drivers and a battle for the title that extends until the final race. »

But the Austrian and his troops also see further, with the electric component which will not be abandoned despite the GT3 revolution. A first ride objective of the prototype whose characteristics had been sketched earlier in the year.

“The next twelve to sixteen months will be spent preparing a prototype to run on the race track, underlines Berger. Our goal is to implement more sustainability step by step.

Between 2025 and 2030, we want to become carbon neutral, and not just with regard to the racing cars on the track, but across the entire platform, including the partners represented there. It is important to be able to present as many technologies as possible on the DTM platform. »
