After Rally, Tourism, GT, Rally-Raid or even the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Sebastian Loeb tackles a new discipline. This weekend marks the debut of the nine-time world rally champion in DTM where he will take the place of Nick Cassidy (retained in Monaco for the Formula E) on board the Ferrari 488 GT3 Alpha Tauri of AF Corse in Portimão (Portugal).
« Throughout my career, I have always liked to alternate between disciplines, recently explained the main person concerned. The DTM is a famous championship and when the opportunity presented itself for me to participate in it, I grabbed it immediately. It's an exciting challenge because the driving style is totally different (of the rally and the rally-raid. Editor’s note). »
Already present on Portuguese soil where the first driving sessions await him this Friday, Sébastien Loeb had the opportunity to meet his new comrades including the reigning champion Maximilian Götz. The latter did not hesitate to talk with the Alsatian to whom he gave some tips.
« I was able to chat with him and I told him that he should simply stay on the asphalt, blows the German from Team WINWARD, great admirer of his new opponent. For me, Loeb is an indisputable hero, he is on the same level as Michael Schumacher et Valentino Rossi. It's great to be able to be next to such a legend. » It remains to be seen whether Maximilian Götz will be as kind on the track to the Frenchman this weekend.
