Imola – Race 2: Another Audi double, first for Feller

After René Rast's double pole victory the day before is another Audi which started from pole position in the second race at Imola with Ricardo Feller, despite 25 kg more on the Germans because of the Balance of Performance (same for Lamborghini after the Bortolotti festival the day before). The Swiss had to resist the Brazilian Felipe Fraga at the start. The pilot Ferrari finally found himself at the end of the first lap to take control. In the peloton, it was chaos. Winner on Saturday, René Rast had to stop at the side of the track following a puncture while Rolf Ineichen (Lamborghini) was also forced to retire in a collision. A situation bringing the Safety Car onto the track. A very large majority of the peloton then plunged into the pit lane and another Ferrari took the lead, that of Nick Cassidy.

Ferrari's misfortunes, Audi's happiness

The restart was going badly for Fraga, decidedly unlucky since the start of the season. The Brazilian suffered a puncture in the chaos of the peloton and also retired. The New Zealander flew into the lead of the race, before finally rushing into the pit lane with just sixteen minutes to go. An endless stop for the AF Corse driver, who came out in 20th place. Feller took the opportunity to regain control of the race, extended by three laps after the intervention of the safety car. The Helvetian was not going to let go until the end for a second Audi success in two days at Imola.

The German brand even scored a new double with the American Dev Gore. A day of firsts as Feller claimed his first victory in the Gore championship his first podium Lucas Auer (Mercedes) lost third place on the last lap to Marco Wittmann (BMW). Shelon van der Linde (BMW) retains the lead in the championship after a complicated Sunday for Mirko Bortolotti (Lamborghini).
