The DTM will face the Super GT from 2014!

This agreement where the two disciplines will share the new DTM regulations will be in force for at least four years. With the current differences in engines between Japanese and German cars, the organizers will adopt a balance of performance during a transitional period.

Hans Werner Aufrecht, the president of the DTM and the owner of the promoter ITR, as well as his counterpart in the Japanese discipline Massaki Banndoh, the president of the GT Association, are delighted with the agreement reached between the two parties. “It’s a big day for everyone involved in this operation but it’s also a big step forward in motorsport”, comments the director of the German discipline. “This cooperation between GTA and ITR based on the new regulations is a dream come true. This important step in the history of motorsport will not only significantly reduce costs, but it will also improve safety and create spectacular races with equal opportunities between manufacturers and teams. » Massaki Banndoh is also convinced that this agreement will be an asset for his discipline. “We believe this partnership will greatly help Super GT and DTM to grow and this established relationship between the two disciplines will enable further developments. »

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Audi's sporting director, was also present at the meeting in Tokyo representing the three manufacturers currently involved in the DTM. “The GTA, the ITR and the manufacturers involved are entering new territory. Super GT in Japan and DTM have a lot of ideas in common, a fact that has become evident during the discussions we have had over the last few years. Now both organizations are ready to adopt the same regulation. It is a decision that will guarantee maximum safety, spectacular races and controlled costs. »
