The DTM begins its recovery

Le DTM going through a difficult time. Between the coronavirus crisis, the departure ofAston Martin after only one season of competition, the difficulties of a common regulation with Super GT and the announcement of Audi's withdrawal at the end of 2020, the organizers of the German touring car championship are struggling to sustain its future.

Organizer ITR nevertheless revealed the dates for the official tests for the 2020 season organized at the Nürburgring from June 8 to 11, giving a first confirmation of a future resumption before a corrected calendar is presented. If Europe slowly emerges from the pandemic, promoters confirm that preparations will be made for holding events behind closed doors.

The ITR company is also working to put in place prevention protocols for its staff by providing for social distancing, a limit on the number of staff and hygiene rules. All members will be tested daily.

“With a lot of patience and hard work, preparations for the new DTM season are moving forward at full speed which will begin with official testing at the Nürburgring next month, commented Marcel Mohaupt, the managing director of ITR. We are truly grateful to all the circuit staff who have put in place the necessary infrastructure to carry out the tests safely. »

“This takes us to the next level and we are very confident that we can organize races in 2020, added the ITR spokesperson. We will soon publish a calendar which will take into account the obligations in order to return to a new normal in motorsport. »
