The DTM will test a DRS system in official tests

Le DTM will offer two test sessions to teams and drivers in order to prepare for the start of the season which will be contested on the weekend of May 5 at Hockenheim. The first session will be organized from March 26 to 29 in Barcelona while the second will take place from April 9 to 12 on the German circuit where the first event of the season will take place. The rookies of the discipline, Timo Glock and Marco Wittmann at BMW as well as Daniel Juncadella and Pascal Wehrlein (replacing Ralf Schumacher) at the house of Mercedes, will be able to improve their piloting with their new mounts.

The first test session in Barcelona will, however, be particularly interesting as the organizers will test new ideas which could be implemented this season in order to increase overtaking possibilities. The manufacturer Hankook will bring a new soft tire which should offer better performance, more extensive strategy possibilities as well as more opportunities for overtaking. But the main novelty will be a DRS system installed on all cars, similar to that used in F1, which will allow cars to reach a better top speed. The new DTM cars offer such efficient downforce that overtaking has become more difficult for the drivers.
