Grand-Am woos DTM

The 24 Hours of Daytona is always a great success in terms of entries. For the rest of the season, the starting grids look less extensive. Can the German experience help to remedy this?

Grand-Am woos DTM

With the Daytona bastards put away, the Grand-Am will have to deal again with American daily life. And the future looks very unclear. Of the fourteen DP (Daytona Prototypes) present last weekend, a third will return to the garages for at least twelve months. Enough to end up with a skinny field, from the next race, in Birmingham (Alabama), on March 31. There are two reasons for this: the economic crisis but also the expectations of certain competitors regarding new cars. Before rushing out with a $450 ticket to Riley, Corvette or elsewhere, several drivers wanted to get an idea of their potential.

En GT, l?abondance de biens ne pose en revanche aucun problème. Mais les pilotes européens qui roulent chez Porsche ou Ferrari will find the WEC or l?ELMS further impoverishing the level of competition, without insulting Andy Lally, Spencer Pumpelly or Andrew Davies. Hence the efforts of the governing bodies to increase the number of joint meetings with the Nascar, as planned in Indianapolis, the weekend of July 29. And it is in the hope of emerging from anonymity that discussions are underway with the DTM in order to create a North American series of this championship as a curtain-raiser to the Grand-Am. But here we are in the realm of dreams.

Find in the issue of AUTOhebdo on newsstands tomorrow, the 10-page report of the 24 Hours of Daytona, by our special correspondent in Florida.
