ITR is dead, long live BMS. Gerhard Berger will take full responsibility for the platform from next year DTM. The “Class one” regulation adopted… In 2019, will already be a thing of the past.
As expected, it is the GT3 which will now represent the future of the series. BMW and Audi have agreed to support the debut of the category by entering official cars, notably the new BMW M4, and by supporting private teams as they do currently. In 2021, the DTM grid should therefore closely resemble that of 2020.
Subsequently, the series aims to include primarily private teams from several manufacturers, like other GT3 championships but with only professional drivers. The technical regulations will change but the competition format should remain similar on race weekends.
“This is the end of a long road of negotiations” commented, relieved, Gerhard Berger. “During the previous months, we considered several strategies for the future of the DTM with the manufacturers and we are happy to have found a solution with Audi and BMW. It should provide a better show. »
The Super GT cars will therefore remain the only ones with “Class One” regulations in 2021.
