Loïc Duval: “I would bring back the fuel supplies”

2019 marks a small revolution in DTM with the arrival of a new technical regulation covering the bases of the famous Class One, with many parameters taken over from Super GT. A regulation supposed to offer more competitive races, particularly with more powerful cars, via the arrival of turbo engine blocks.

However, other elements could restore even more interest in racing in the series according to Loïc duval. “I would bring back the refueling during the pit stops, admits the Frenchman from Audi Sport. For what ? You could then actually change your strategy for the race.

You can start with a very light car without much fuel on board, allowing you to overtake, because a lighter car is always faster than a heavier car. Or the opposite: put a lot of gas at the start and have a very light car at the end. »

The winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2013 also believes that the management of safety cars should be reworked. “The problem is that the safety car has too great an effect on the races and, of course, on the results, describes Duval.

Most of the time, the safety car is deployed early in the race. If I were in charge of the rules, I would add that it is not allowed to make stops in the first five, seven or eight laps to avoid stops after the first lap and to take advantage of the safety car . Because it's unfair for those who did a good job in qualifying and are ahead. »

Author of a podium at Misano in Italy, Loïc Duval will find another typical circuit MotoGP this weekend in Assen, a track that he will discover, but which should offer competitive battles due to its characteristics mainly oriented towards two-wheel racing.

“I think it will give us a lot of good opportunities to overtake for good races, advances the native of Chartres. We're really looking forward to it. Also, with Robin (Frijns) we have a Dutchman in the team. So I hope the fans will give us a little more support. »
