On a drying track, Marco Wittmann (BMW) dominated the entire field to secure pole position for the first race at Brands Hatch in England.
The German driver waited until the last moments on an improving track, to set the benchmark in 1'15"654, less than a tenth ahead of René Rast (Audi), long placed at the forefront.
Good performance of Loïc duval (Audi), third time just ahead of Paul di Resta, who hoists the first Aston Martin Vantage has an advantageous position on the grid. Robin Frijns (Audi) and Sheldon van der Linde (BMW) will share the third row.
Terrible session in the WRT clan, since Pietro Fittipaldi and Jonathan Aberdein both made mistakes during the session almost simultaneously, causing a red flag.
If Aberdein “simply” drove straight on the tricky track, ending up against the protective barriers, the Brazilian violently hit the wall, without any unfortunate consequences, the driver getting out of his car alone.
Fittipaldi's Audi RS 5 appeared seriously damaged, offering an intense work session ahead for the Belgian team's mechanics.
Quit a nightmare for our customer team @followWRT as both cars crashed at the same time. Most important is that both drivers are okay. Session red flagged for barrier repairs.
