Marco Wittmann wins DTM place with BMW

Marco Wittmann held the position of test and development driver at BMW Motorsport in DTM this season. As a reminder, the propeller firm made a thunderous return to the discipline, since it won everything, and in particular the Drivers' crown thanks to the Canadian Bruno Spengler. The German will return to competition by being offered a seat to compete in the 2013 season, becoming the seventh driver for the Bavarian brand. Aged 23, he competed this year in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the Vita4One Racing Team and had already highlighted himself the previous season by becoming the vice-champion of the F3 Euro Series.

“Marco spent the 2012 season preparing intensely for this opportunity”, assured Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport. “He has been a permanent member of the team this year and has been present at all events. He knows the processes as well as the other pilots. Furthermore, his tests with the BMW M3 DTM proved that he was more than capable of progressing in the discipline. So he completely deserves his wheel in 2013.”

BMW Motorsport will soon announce its eighth driver for the 2013 season. Luca Filippi, who has competed in numerous seasons in the GP2 Series, will test next week at the Estoril circuit.
