There is no stopping the double Danish world endurance champion. Recent winner of the 1000 Miles of Sebring in the LMGTE Am category, Nicki Thiim is preparing to discover a new category, the one that crowned his father, the DTM. The 32-year-old Danish driver will participate in the 16 races that make up the touring car series and will be lined up at the wheel of the second Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO from the T3 Motorsport team. As a reminder, the 2022 DTM season will kick off in Portimão, from April 29 to May 1.

The very first son of a DTM champion on the grid

“DTM!” What to say ? The biggest dream of my career has come true, says Nicki Thiim. I grew up with DTM. At breakfast, lunch and dinner there was always DTM on TV and my father was my hero, of course. »

As a reminder, the father of the Thiim family, a certain Kurt, won the world title at the wheel of the Rover Vitesse in 1986 and before driving for the historic German team, Mercedes, between 1988 and 1996.

“The DTM was my DNA, it was always about racing there. And now, to have managed to get in there with T3 Motorsport […], it’s really something special. I'm happy to be able to race there as the first son of a DTM champion. »

After winning the title in the Seat series (2008) and Porsche (2013), being on the highest step of the podium at the 24 hours of the Nürburgring in 2013 and at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 2014, Nicki Thiim stood out by joining the ranks ofAston Martin, becoming world champion in 2016 and during the 2019-2020 double season in WEC.

“I think this is the strongest DTM field in over ten years, declared the main interested party. The team is great and I can’t wait to start the season.” The Danish driver will line up alongside Briton Esmee Hawkey and will wear number 95 at T3 Motorsport.
