Nürburgring – Race 2: Stolz, a first victory in control

A perfect race and a first tasty victory for Luca Stolz (Team HRT – Mercedes) ! The German triumphed for the first time in DTM with masterful success. Having moved into the lead of the race after the pit stops, the 27-year-old driver then escaped far in front, increasing his lead by tenths of a second each lap.

Sheldon van der Linde increases his lead, Bortolotti loses everything!

Starting from pole position, the new championship leader, Sheldon van der Linde (Schubert Motorsport – BMW), missed his restart after the intervention of the safety car. The South African, 3rd on the restart, fell to 9th place. He retains the lead in the DTM championship since Mirko Bortolotti (GRT – Lamborghini), who was fighting for 4th place against brother Kelvin van der Linde, made contact at the very end of the race. The Italian forced the door at turn 4 and suffered a puncture. Bortolotti leaves the Nürburgring with two retirements in two races and is relegated to 21 points behind the championship leader.

The Sefety Car intervened a few minutes after the start, following the collision between René Rast (Team ABT – Audi) and David Schumacher (Team Winward – Mercedes). The son of the ex-pilot of Formula 1 hit the future member of the BMW fold in the last corner. Audi #33 found itself stuck in the gravel trap. The race was disrupted by several contacts between the drivers and 8 retirements, which had the gift of annoying René Rast and Dev Gore in particular…
