R-Motorsport ceases its involvement in DTM

A little tour and then leaves for R-Motorsport DTM. The Swiss entity of Dr Florian Kamelger only had a fleeting stint in the German touring car championship, using the license for a single season. Aston Martin last year.

Built on the foundations of the former program Mercedes, via an association with HWA (and the creation of the Vynamic structure), this program allowed the overseas series to keep three headliners with Audi Sport and BMW Motorsport.

The two historic brands could therefore come face to face in 2020, after the announcement of the withdrawal of R-Motorsport.

“The re-evaluation of our motorsport program has shown that we want to set new priorities for the future and that the DTM commitment would no longer suit us, says Dr Florian Kamelger.

I would like to take this opportunity to particularly thank Gerhard Berger and ITR (promoter of DTM), Dieter Gass (boss of Audi Sport) and Jens Marquardt (boss of BMW Motorsport) for the joint commitment to DTM during our first season . In particular, BMW who has been an extremely useful partner for us. »

Four Aston Martin Vantages were entered for Dani Juncadella, Paul di Resta, Ferdinand Habsburg and Jake Dennis. Juncadella and Dennis brought the team's best result, a sixth place across all rounds of the season.

The team also did not wish to send cars to Japan for the Dream Race organized in conjunction with the Super GT last November, arguing that it wanted to concentrate on preparing for the 2020 campaign.

Aligned in GT3 via the operation of Aston Martin Vantage GT3s, R-Motorsport will be taking part next weekend at the 12 Hours of Bathurst in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The Swiss team will soon announce its full program, with GT3 possibly considered as the major option.

As for the DTM and the future of the championship, 2020 is expected to take place with just two brands. But what about next?
