Rast continues in Zolder, first podium for Kubica

In Zolder, René Rast arrived as runner-up to Nico Müller and leaves as the new leader of the DTM. On the Belgian track this Sunday, the German signed his fourth consecutive victory, his sixth of the season.

This victory, the Audi driver of Team Rosberg forged it alone. Second on the starting grid, René Rast waited until the pit stops to take control. Having stopped a lap later than pole sitter and race leader Ferdinand Habsburg (WRT), the German did not get trapped in traffic and took the lead after refueling from Robert Kubica (ART). The rest was a long, quiet river.

Second after the series of stops, Ferdinand Habsburg gradually lost sight of René Rast and especially had to concentrate on Nico Müller (Team ABT Sportline). Under threat from the Swiss, the Austrian defended as best he could but finally gave in less than half an hour from the end. Affected by mechanical problems afterwards, he finished 10th and last in race 2.

Technical problems which made Robert Kubica happy. Fourth after his pit stop, the Pole managed to get rid of the WRT driver to secure his first podium in DTM ahead of Timo Glock (BMW Team RMG).

Third in the championship, Robin Frijns did not finish the race due to technical problems. Benoît Tréluyer experienced a new complicated ordeal. If on Saturday he finished one lap behind René Rast, this time the Frenchman did not see the checkered flag.

With two rounds remaining in the season, René Rast is now 19 points ahead of Nico Müller and 41 over Robin Frijns.
