René Rast takes a third DTM crown

There it's finished. THE DTM in its touring version bowed out at the end of the final race of the season at Hockenheim on Sunday. And who better than René Rast to magnify this end of the cycle? The German won to celebrate his third DTM title in just four years in the discipline.

The Audi driver, long in the shadow of Nico Müller this season, has won five of the last six races to claim the championship. In the end, only the 2018 crown escaped him.

Alone in the world in qualifying this weekend, this time he had the perfect race. Mike Rockenfeller took the lead at the start at the expense of Rast. But the championship leader quickly got back in front thanks to a maneuver, let's say muscular, which Rockenfeller almost concluded by sending Rast into the background.

Later, runner-up Nico Müller made his last stand by taking the lead thanks to a perfect undercut.

But deprived of push to pass, the Swiss showed himself powerless in the second part of the race to resist the fantastic ride of the champion, who won with more than ten seconds in advance. The performance is quite exceptional on a circuit where the DRS and Push to pass allow you to stay in contact.

Jamie Green completes the podium then Mike Rockenfeller, Robin Frijns and the French Loïc duval offer a sextuplet to Audi. The symbol of BMW's debacle this season. Robert Kubica ends his only season in DTM with a fifteenth place.
