Robert Kubica in DTM with BMW and ART Grand Prix

If it will not compensate for the departure of Aston Martin of R-Motorsport, the presence of Robert Kubica in DTM this year promises to attract various international and even more Polish media to the series.

In addition to being a reservist of the Alfa Romeo Racing in Formula 1, the 35-year-old Pole will defend the colors of BMW in the DTM this year. This expected news was made official this morning. But the surprise comes from the fact that this car will be operated by… ART Grand Prix!

« This is great news for the DTM, rejoices Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport. We are delighted to welcome ART Grand Prix as a client team. Growing the contingent of entrants and making the discipline more attractive thanks to the addition of private M4 DTMs has always been one of our objectives. There have been a lot of discussions and potential teams over the past few months. After reviewing all the criteria, we opted for the package provided by ART Grand Prix. Following the tests conducted in December in Spain, Robert made no secret of the fact that he saw his future in DTM. It’s great that ART Grand Prix is giving him this opportunity. Robert showed during testing that he was comfortable in a DTM car. »

« The DTM has attracted me for a long time, Robert Kubica, for his part, insists, and the Jerez tests gave me a taste of it. I can't wait to start this new chapter in my career. I immediately felt very good behind the wheel of the M4 DTM and ART Grand Prix has certainly been one of the big names on the international automotive scene for many years. I am sure that together we can succeed in DTM. »

As a reminder, ART Grand Prix is not arriving in a world that is completely unknown to it, the French team having been part of the official teams Mercedes during the 2015 and 2016 campaigns.

« This project is important to us, underlines Sébastien Philippe. We put a lot of energy into it over the winter. ART Grand Prix will have to relearn the ropes of this very high level championship. Our objectives will be modest at the start of the campaign, but with the determination of our team, I hope that we will progress from the start in order to fight with the top teams. »

The arrival of Robert Kubica therefore brings the number of BMW M4 DTMs entered this year to seven. First outings planned during the official tests organized by ITR in Monza (March 16-18), a little over a month before the opening round of the 2020 season, from April 24 to 26 in Zolder (Belgium).
