Robert Kubica positively surprised by his test with the BMW M4

Not renewed by Williams F1 for 2020, Robert Kubica don't despair of finding a full-time driver for the next campaign. Already seen in the seat of a car DTM in 2013 with Mercedes, It's with BMW that the Pole was able to try out the new cars in the series, meeting the Class One regulations.

A test carried out as part of the Young Driver days in Jerez in Spain, where new drivers Ed Jones and Fabio Scherer Audi Team WRT were also in action.

Driving which allowed the former pilot Renault F1 to understand the turbo block of the M4 DTM, which appeared this year as part of the technical rapprochement with the Super GT. A car that surprised Kubica in a good way.

“There are several things about the DTM car that surprised me positively, he admits. During my first laps, I immediately felt comfortable, which is what a driver always looks for when testing and discovering new cars.

It was clearly a very productive test. It was my first time in the new generation of DTM cars. There was a lot to learn and a lot to discover because, of course, it was different from what I was used to in recent years.

There are, of course, some differences to a Formula 1 car that you can feel – like the weight of the car – and although the DTM cars have a lot of downforce, it's less than in F1.

Nevertheless, I think it is a very pleasant car to drive and a very advanced car also from a technical point of view. I really enjoyed the test and working with the team. I think we went through a lot of things with a positive outcome, so yeah, I'm pretty happy. »

BMW also lined up Marco Wittmann and Philipp Eng to prepare for the next season, while Nick Yelloly, who played for BMW in GT in 2019 in China GT, was also there.

So Robert Kubica in DTM in 2020? The bets are open. If WRT, the only private structure, has confirmed its drivers, Audi Sport has not yet formalized its lines, just like the BMW fold. Response in the coming weeks?
