Scheider on pole at Norisring

As in Formula 3, which races on the same circuit as the sedans during the weekends DTM-F3, the weather conditions had a major influence on the progress of qualifying. The alternation of rain and clearings allowed some pilots to do well, others being trapped. This was the case for Tom Kristensen and Paul di Resta, accustomed to monopolizing the first places, but who found themselves ousted mid-session, leaving the last eight drivers to compete for pole.

Timo Scheider, Mattias Ekström, Bruno Spengler and Gary Paffett then distinguished themselves by reaching the final qualifying phase, exiting late on a dry track. Ralf Schumacher, Maro Engel and Jamie Green found themselves on the sidelines for having completed their maximum number of laps, no longer able to improve their times as the track dried out. In the final phase of the session, the Audi A4s of Scheider and Ekström were the fastest, ahead of the Mercedes by Spengler and Paffett.
